Flatline
Flatline is PoodleVPN’s constant-rate traffic padding system. It exists to reduce burst fingerprints, normalize flow patterns, and raise the cost of simple traffic correlation.
The problem with burst traffic
VPN traffic is typically bursty. Pages load in spikes, idle gaps follow, then new spikes appear. Even when encrypted, these patterns can be fingerprinted and correlated.
What Flatline does
Flatline maintains a steady tunnel rate instead of allowing traffic to surge and collapse.
- Reduces obvious burst signatures
- Makes timing analysis less trivial
- Normalizes idle vs active periods
- Pairs cleanly with proxy and Tor layering
What Flatline does not claim
Flatline does not claim to defeat a global passive adversary or replace mixnets.
Privacy is not a binary state. Flatline is one architectural layer among many.
When to use Flatline
- When quieter traffic patterns matter
- When combining VPN → proxy → Tor
- When operating under passive monitoring
- When consistency matters more than peak throughput
